Case Description
On November 18, 2022, in Petrozavodsk, a search was conducted at the home of a 46-year-old local resident, Artyom Sokolov. During the search, security forces confiscated his electronic devices, after which they interrogated him. A criminal case was opened against Sokolov for repeated "discrediting" of the Russian army. The reason for initiating the case was a post on VKontakte. It is unknown exactly what the defendant wrote. The man was placed under a non-leave obligation for the duration of the investigation. Earlier, a man was fined in a case of an administrative offense under the article on "discrediting" the RF army - the reason for this was also a post on VKontakte. June 24, 2024, the Petrozavodsk City Court of the Republic of Karelia, at the request of the investigator, terminated the criminal prosecution against Artem Sokolov, imposing a fine of 50 thousand. rubles. The investigator requested to terminate the criminal case, as Sokolov "reassessed his position and realized that he was wrong, which he reported on his page on VKontakte. Also, the man "provided charitable assistance to the foundation 'Let's Help Children and Veterans of Combat Operations'.
