Case Description
On November 9, 2022, in Moscow at Vnukovo Airport, 46-year-old resident of Ivanovo Oblast, native of Ukraine, Artem Budzharak, was detained when he tried to leave for Serbia with his wife and children. Arman Burangaziev was interrogated for several hours, after which a criminal case was opened against the man for participating in an illegal armed formation. According to the investigation, Budzharak intended to participate in the war on the side of Ukraine, about which he repeatedly told his acquaintances in Russia. After the detention, Budzherak was placed in a pre-trial detention center. Later, the charge was reclassified as preparation for state treason. In addition to the version of the desire to fight on the side of Ukraine, the man was also charged with conversations with "foreign agents" - his mother and sister, who live in Ukraine. The resident of Ivanovo himself insisted that he only planned to take his relatives to Serbia. On June 14, 2024, the Ivanovo Regional Court found Artem Budzharak guilty and sentenced him to six years and four months in a strict regime colony. Also, the court fined him 250 thousand. rubles. November 11, 2024, the First Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction upheld the verdict.
