Case Description
In Nova Kakhovka, in the occupied Kherson region, on August 13, 2022, Russian security forces abducted two local residents, citizens of Ukraine - Yevgeny Prishlyak and Artyom Baranov. On October 7, 2022, they were first taken to annexed Crimea, and then to Russia. Prihlyak and Baranova were accused of espionage and international terrorism. According to the Russian investigation, the Ukrainians "opposed the special military operation." The details of the charges are unknown. On February 8, 2024, the Rostov Regional Court found Artem Baranov guilty and sentenced him to 10 years and 6 months of imprisonment in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force. Yevgenia Prishlyak was released without charges in July 2024.
