Case Description
In late March 2024, 36-year-old former Russian Foreign Ministry employee Arseny Konovalov was detained in Moscow. He was accused of treason. According to the FSB, Konovalov, while working from 2014 to 2017 in the position of Second Secretary of the Russian Consulate General in Houston, was recruited by the CIA. He proactively passed secret information to American intelligence that became known to him in the course of his service, in exchange for monetary compensation. On March 28, 2024, the Lefortovo District Court of Moscow sent Arseny Konovalov into custody. On December 26, 2025, the Moscow City Court found Arseny Konovalov guilty and sentenced him to 12 years in a strict regime colony with a fine of 100 thousand. rubles and with a restriction of freedom for 1 year.
