Case Description
On the border between the occupied Kherson region and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea (CPVV "Chongar") on April 6, 2022, a citizen of Ukraine, a Crimean Tatar Arsen Ibragimov, was detained. Together with his mother and wife, he was traveling to visit relatives in Crimea. After Ibrahimov's detention, he was taken to Simferopol, where FSB officers, under pressure, demanded that he confess to allegedly joining the Crimean Tatar Volunteer Battalion named after Noman Chelebidzhikhan in the spring of 2016. A criminal case was opened against Ibraymov for participating in an illegal military formation. According to the investigation, being a member of the battalion from spring 2016 to April 8, 2022, Ibragimov actively participated in its activities, performed functional duties related to material support for its members, driving official NWF vehicles and their technical maintenance, engaged in managing subsidiary farming and guarding NWF facilities. On August 25, 2022, the Russian-controlled Kievsky District Court of the Republic of Crimea found Arsen Ibragimov guilty and sentenced him to 10 years in a strict regime colony, with the first year to be served in prison. On December 6, 2022, the Supreme Court of Crimea left the verdict in force.
