Case Description
In the city of Pechory, Pskov Oblast, at the end of November 2023, a criminal case was opened against local resident Anton Zaitsev for cooperating on a confidential basis with a representative of a foreign state to the detriment of the Russian Federation. The court placed him in a pre-trial detention center. According to the investigation, since December 2022, the man attempted to establish contact with a representative of the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in Moscow with the aim of providing assistance on a confidential basis and transferring, in exchange for citizenship of the aforementioned state, information about the deployment of units of the Federal Security Service and the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the Pskov region." June 3, 2024, the Pskov Regional Court found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to 3 years 6 months of imprisonment to be served in a general regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
