Case Description
In Gatchina, Leningrad Oblast, no later than March 2025, a criminal case was opened for calls to terrorism against 52-year-old local resident Anton Zaretskiy. The reason for the criminal prosecution was comments in Telegram calling to "erase Engels airfield. Zaretskiy was charged with two episodes: according to the indictment, on July 24, 2024, under the publication "A car of a GRU Ministry of Defense officer was blown up in Moscow, the man commented on the consequences of the terrorist attack: "Feet are nonsense, he will definitely find prostheses." But the face of his wife is cooler than his paws. Her disfigured face will be an eternal reproach to him. The second episode in the case is a comment from August 26, 2024, in the Telegram channel 'NeTV' under a post about a Ukrainian drone hitting a high-rise building in Engels: 'The Engels airfield has long been time to erase, and on this unfinished building is simply a pity to spend.' An examination conducted by security forces found linguistic signs of justifying terrorism in the comments. According to Zaretskiy himself, the main motive for writing the comments was the news of the death of relatives in Ukraine. Zaretskiy explained that at the time he did not realize that his notes would be available to a large number of people — according to him, it was an emotional outburst. For the duration of the investigation, the defendant was placed in a pre-trial detention center. On September 2, 2025, the 1st Western Military District Court found Anton Zaretskiy guilty and imposed a fine of 400 thousand as punishment. rubles.
