Case Description

On the morning of January 8, 2026, on 2nd Murinsky Prospekt, 49, the demolition of the former building of the Paper Industry Research Institute (VNIIB) began. At the same time, the building is listed among objects possessing characteristics of cultural heritage sites. Activists and urban conservationists came out in his defense. They turned to the police, complaining about the inaction of the Ministry of Internal Affairs employees and the illegal demolition. Defenders of the building, despite active resistance from security, managed to break through to the construction equipment. One of the activists, Aleksandr Komelkov, was hit several times on the head with a stick during a scuffle with hired security. Arriving patrol and post service squad began detaining defenders of the building — they detained another Russian, Kirill Travkin, a participant in the SVO, and another Russian, Andrey Milyuk. The next day, on January 9, a criminal case was initiated against Anton Glukhov, a 54-year-old resident of one of the neighboring houses. He was accused of hooliganism. According to law enforcement, the man sprayed the contents of a gas canister in the face of a 21-year-old security guard who was 'hired to keep activists and residents away' from the building. The security guard turned to the medics and was released in satisfactory condition. Vyborgsky District Court of the city of St. Petersburg chose house arrest as a preventive measure against Glukhov.
