Case Description

In Vladimir, on the night of March 2, 2022, graffiti with the words 'NO TO WAR' appeared in the area of Erofeevsky Spusk and near Lybedskaya Magistral. The publication "Dovod" published photographs of the graffiti. Activists who left the inscription have their faces hidden by medical masks. The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case for vandalism motivated by political and ideological hatred on this fact. Law enforcement officers began to massively summon many well-known artists in the city for questioning and interrogation. Local residents Denis Savenko, Ivan Sinyuzin, and Anton Ganyushkin are known to have been detained. Initially, they were released as witnesses, but in the end, Anton Ganyushkin was charged. A search was conducted at his place, after which he was released on his own recognizance. Searches were also conducted on March 5 at the journalists of the publication "Dovod", who published photographs of anti-war graffiti: journalist Evgeny Sautin, editor Kirill Ishutin, political analyst Kirill Alekseyev, journalist Danil Belyakov and his brother Vladislav Belyakov. They all left Russia. 27 September 2022, Elena Masalova, a magistrate of the Oktyabrsky District Court of Vladimir, found Anton Ganyushkin guilty and sentenced him to eight months of restriction of liberty. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
