Case Description
On November 20, 2023, in Horlivka, occupied Donetsk region, 25-year-old local resident, Ukrainian citizen with forced Russian citizenship Anton Bondarenko was detained. He was accused of treason and justifying terrorism. According to the Russian investigation, in 2023, the man made contact with an agent of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and agreed to collect and transmit information about the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for money. From May to September 2023, the defendant more than 10 times collected information about the location of military equipment and personnel of the Russian Ministry of Defence in Gorlovka and Gorlovka district of the DNR with reference to geographical coordinates and sent it to an agent of the GUR. Bonarenko also allegedly posted a message on the internet calling for terrorist activity. It is unknown what exactly the Ukrainian wrote. For the duration of the investigation, the defendant was placed in a pre-trial detention center. September 29, 2025, the Southern District Military Court found Anton Bondarenko guilty and sentenced him to 16.5 years in a strict regime penal colony.
