Case Description
In the Kursk region in December 2024, a criminal case was initiated in absentia against Danish citizen Annabelle Jorgensen for mercenary activities and committing a terrorist act. According to the investigation, Jorgensen took direct part in an armed conflict on the territory of the Russian Federation as a mercenary. Together with other representatives of Ukrainian mercenary armed formations in November 2024, she illegally crossed the state border of the Russian Federation and invaded the territory of the Kursk region. Pursuing the goal of intimidating the population, causing significant property damage and destabilizing the activities of government bodies, she committed certain "criminal actions against peaceful residents of the region." Details are unknown. Jorgensen was put on the wanted list. ____ The evidence collected by investigators from the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia has been recognized by the court as sufficient to pass a sentence on Annabelle Jorgensen, a citizen of the Kingdom of Denmark. She has been found guilty of mercenary activities, illegal crossing of the State Border of the Russian Federation, smuggling and illegal possession of weapons and ammunition, as well as committing a terrorist act as part of an organized group (Part 3 of Article 359, Part 3 of Article 322, Part 3 of Article 226.1, paragraphs "a", "v" of Part 2 of Article 205, Part 4 of Article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The investigation and the court have established that Jorgensen took part in hostilities on the side of Ukrainian armed formations, for which she received monetary compensation. In October 2024, she illegally crossed the State Border of the Russian Federation with firearms as part of Ukrainian armed formations and invaded the territory of the Kursk region. Jorgensen's actions were aimed at intimidating the population, caused significant property damage and destabilized the activities of government bodies. At the request of an investigator from the Investigative Committee of Russia, the court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention for Jorgensen in absentia, and she has been placed on the international wanted list. During the preliminary investigation, witnesses were questioned, photo identifications were conducted, documents and internet resources were examined, and other irrefutable evidence was collected, which fully confirms her guilt. The court has issued an in absentia sentence of 26 years of imprisonment against her.
