Case Description
In the village of Donskoye, Stavropol Krai, no later than November 2024, a criminal case was initiated against 37-year-old local resident Anna Vorobyeva for spreading "fakes" about the Russian army motivated by political hatred or enmity. According to law enforcement, from February 24, 2022, to April 2023, Vorobyeva posted publications on her VKontakte page "containing knowingly false information about the Russian Federation conducting military aggressive actions on the territory of another sovereign state, calling them 'Russian occupation.'" In particular, the woman was charged with posts about strikes on residential areas, infrastructure facilities, as well as about mass killings of residents of Bucha, "calling the actions allegedly committed by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation war crimes." On March 22, 2023, at 22:05, she published a post with the following content (spelling and punctuation preserved): "My letter to the bunker grandfather. Hello! I, Vorobyeva Anna Vitalyevna, born in 1987. I demand the immediate withdrawal of troops from the territory of the independent state of Ukraine. I declare my complete disagreement with this position, and I consider the bloody war started by the President of the Russian Federation and his friends monstrous, during which a huge number of people have died. The outright fascism organized by the Russian authorities amazes with its baseness. I demand the withdrawal of troops, the return of occupied territories, and an apology to the Ukrainian people. My position will remain unwavering, as will my ideology, which supports peace without war, ensuring social equality and the possibility of expressing my opinion regarding the situation provoked by the Russian authorities, which has put the safety of the entire world at risk. In conclusion, I want to report that Russia, to my deepest regret, has chosen the most inhumane political course, instead of conducting political and economic reforms, destroying the last institutions, plundering and devastating the country." Vorobyeva herself is not in Russia and lives with her husband in the state of California, USA. On March 12, 2025, the Trunovsky District Court of Stavropol Krai found Anna Vorobyeva guilty and sentenced her in absentia to six years in a general regime penal colony. The court also prohibited the woman from administering websites for three years. She was placed on the wanted list. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
