Case Description
In Chita, a criminal case was opened against Andrei Solovyov, a 29-year-old local resident with a prior conviction for drugs, for repeated "discrediting" of the RF army. The date of the initiation of the case is unknown. The reason for the criminal prosecution was comments and reposts that the man allegedly posted on his personal page on the social network VKontakte. According to the investigation, these publications contained "discrediting the activities of representatives of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation participating in the special military operation on the territory of Ukraine, as well as discrediting the goals of the state bodies of the Russian Federation in exercising their powers." "Earlier, in September 2022, Solovyova was brought to justice in a case of an administrative offense under the article on "discrediting" the RF Armed Forces, which became the reason for the protocol, it is also unknown." For the duration of the investigation, a preventive measure was taken against the defendant in the form of a written undertaking not to leave. On October 10, 2024, the Central District Court of Chita in the Trans-Baikal Territory found Andrey Solovyov guilty and sentenced him to 2 years of imprisonment to be served in a strict regime correctional colony, as well as deprivation of the right to administer websites, forums, chats, and groups in social networks on the Internet for 2 years. The man was taken into custody in the courtroom. On December 3, 2024, the Trans-Baikal Regional Court left the sentence in force.
