Case Description
In the Krasnodar Territory, no later than September 2019, a criminal case of treason was opened against 28-year-old Russian and Ukrainian citizen, train dispatcher, and lieutenant of the reserve of the Russian Railway Troops Andrey Pikula. According to the investigation, in the fall of 2018, Pikula was recruited by intelligence officers of a foreign state. He was offered, in exchange for registration, resolving household issues, and general patronage while on the territory of a foreign state, to collect and provide information of interest to the intelligence of that state and constituting a state secret of the Russian Federation." "In the fall of 2019, Pikula allegedly collected the aforementioned information and passed it on to an employee of the intelligence department of a foreign state. The court placed the man in custody. On July 2, 2021, the Krasnodar Regional Court found Andrey Pikul guilty and sentenced him to 8 years in a strict regime colony with the deprivation of his military rank of "lieutenant in the reserve. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
