Case Description
Near Podolsk in the Moscow region, 26-year-old Andrey Byzov was detained in early May 2025. A criminal case was initiated against him for calls for terrorism. During investigative actions at Byzov's residence, a mobile phone was found, and during its examination, correspondence with a curator from Ukrainian special services was allegedly discovered, containing instructions to retrieve a "cache" in a forest park in western Moscow. Immediately, investigators from the Moscow Investigative Committee conducted an inspection of the specified location in the forest park and found a homemade explosive device there. In addition to the article on calls for terrorism, Byzov was charged with preparation for committing a terrorist act. According to the investigation, Byzov posted comments in a messenger supporting the "Russian Volunteer Corps" (RDK) from December 2024 to January 2025. In March 2025, he joined this organization and, on the curators' instructions, collected information about the movement of Russian military equipment. Together with a representative of the RDK, he planned to carry out a terrorist attack on a military facility in the Moscow region on May 9, 2025. For this, Byzov conducted reconnaissance of the area and obtained the coordinates of a cache with an explosive device. Law enforcement also claimed that he planned to carry out an explosion in places of mass gathering of people. On May 6, 2025, the Kuntsevsky District Court of Moscow placed the case's defendant in custody at the request of the investigation. On May 19, Putin, in a conversation with Donald Trump, spoke about preventing this "terrorist attack." On January 26, 2026, the 2nd Western Military Court found Andrey Byzov guilty and sentenced him to 18 years of imprisonment, the first 5 years to be served in prison, and the remaining part of the sentence in a strict regime penal colony. The court also fined him 400 thousand rubles and banned him from administering websites on the internet for 4 years.
