Case Description
In Samara in June 2022, a criminal case was opened against former co-chairman of the Togliatti branch of the PARNAS party Andrey Balin for "fakes" about the Russian army motivated by political hatred. Balin became a suspect in it more than a month later. Politician was placed under house arrest as a measure of restraint on July 20. The reason for the criminal prosecution was six posts on VKontakte dedicated to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. On March 17, 2023, the Central District Court of Tolyatti found Balin guilty and sentenced him to seven years in a general regime colony. In addition to imprisonment, he was also banned from administering websites for four years. 13 July 2023, the Samara Regional Court upheld the sentence.
