Case Description

Residents of the city of Yeniseisk in the Krasnoyarsk Territory came to search the home of a 52-year-old local resident, pensioner Andrey Anikeyev, on June 28, 2023. The reason for the search was three anti-war comments on VKontakte. Law enforcement officers confiscated Anikiev's phone, laptop and passport, and also forced him to apologize on camera. According to the pensioner, one of the security forces had a patch with a 'dead head' on his uniform. Police took a statement from the man in which he wrote that he "regrets his actions" and also promised law enforcement that he would no longer express his views about the war on social media. In August 2023, a criminal case was opened against Anishchev for repeated "discrediting of the army. Charges were brought against Anikiev based on three comments on VKontakte: in one of them, Anikiev calls the war with Ukraine a "conquest war, in another he tells about high-ranking military officials who previously spoke out against wars, and in the third he calls the shelling of Ukrainian civilian infrastructure "a disgrace to our army." "For the duration of the investigation, the pensioner was placed under a written undertaking not to leave. Earlier, in April and May 2022, Anikieva was fined in a case of an administrative offense under the article on discrediting the army, apparently due to a repost of a photo of someone's single picket, and a month later - due to the publication of a video address by military pilot and Hero of Russia Gennady Shtern calling for an end to the destruction of Ukrainian cities. On May 22, 2024, the Yenisei District Court of the Krasnoyarsk Territory found Andrei Anikeyev guilty and sentenced him to a fine of 100 thousand rubles. rubles. The court also ordered to confiscate his phone in favor of the state.
