Case Description

In Moscow in the summer of 2024, a criminal case was opened for "spreading knowingly false information about the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation on the grounds of political hatred" against lawyer and founder of the "Ark" project, which supports anti-war-minded relocants from Russia, Anastasia Burakova. The reason for the criminal prosecution was an anti-war post in her Telegram channel, published on February 25, 2023. Sam Burakova lives outside of Russia. 27 May 2025, the Basmanny District Court found Anastasia Burakova guilty and sentenced her in absentia to 7.5 years in a general regime penal colony. The court deprived her of the right to administer websites on the internet for 3 years and put her on the international wanted list.
