Case Description
Amid Yusubov was detained in St. Petersburg on September 8, 2023, due to voice messages in the Telegram channel chat dedicated to mixed martial arts. According to the investigation, Amid published an appeal on social networks "calling for the commission of illegal actions against Russian citizens. In the recording, the man says that he supports the Ukrainians who are fighting, recalls the history of Russia's occupation of the Caucasus and the persecution of migrants in Moscow, and calls on Muslims to defend their rights. In the second part of the recording, Yusubov indeed calls on his fellow believers to take revenge on a certain person who had previously made offensive statements about Muslims, but it is impossible to determine from the recording who exactly is being referred to. Amid was accused of inciting hatred or enmity with a threat of violence. The court sent him into custody for the duration of the investigation. On September 25, 2024, the Pushkin District Court of St. Petersburg found Amid Yusubov guilty and sentenced him to 3.5 years in a general regime colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
