Abdulvapov Ametkhan Nadzhip-ogly

In annexed Simferopol, on February 9, 2022, 32-year-old mechanical engineer, Crimean Tatar Ametkhan Abdulvapov was detained. He was charged with participating in the activities of a terrorist organization, as well as with preparing for the violent seizure of power and change of constitutional order.

According to the investigation, Abdulvapov joined the Simferopol cell of the organization 'Hizb ut-Tahrir' no later than December 11, 2015. Until his detention, he conducted covert activities: held talks with local residents, distributed party materials, and inclined Muslims to organized anti-constitutional activity. The goal of this work, according to the prosecution, was to create a theocratic state, the 'World Islamic Caliphate'. The defendant participated in secret meetings ('halakats') where methods of destroying state borders, including by means of 'jihad', were discussed. Ametkhan Abdulvapov did not plead guilty.

During the investigation, the defendant was placed in pre-trial detention (SIZO).

On March 15, 2023, the Southern District Military Court found Ametkhan Abdulvapov guilty and sentenced him to 10.5 years of imprisonment, the first 3 years of which he must serve in prison, and the rest in a maximum-security correctional colony. The court also sentenced him to 1 year of restriction of liberty.

On November 27, 2023, the Appellate Military Court left the verdict unchanged.
