Case Description
In Moscow, no later than July 2024, the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case against Pussy Riot group members Olga Borisova, Diana Burkot, Alina Petrova, and Taso Pletner. They were accused of spreading "fakes" about the Russian army, committed by a group of individuals motivated by political hatred. According to the investigation, the case was prompted by two episodes. The first - the publication in 2022 on YouTube of the clip "Mama, Don't Watch TV," which, in the investigation's opinion, contained "fakes" about the actions of the Russian Armed Forces. The second episode - an action at the Munich art museum "Pinakothek der Moderne" on April 18, 2024, where the participants shouted slogans about the destruction of civilian infrastructure by the Russian army, and one of them urinated on a portrait of Vladimir Putin. In July 2024, the case suspects were put on the wanted list. On February 3, 2025, the Basmanny Court of Moscow issued an in absentia arrest warrant for all five group members. On September 15, 2025, the Basmanny Court of Moscow found all five Pussy Riot members guilty and sentenced them in absentia: Maria Alekhina - 13 years and 15 days in a penal colony by aggregate sentences, Taso Pletner - 11 years imprisonment, Diana Burkot, Alina Petrova, and Olga Borisova - 8 years in a general regime colony each.
