Case Description
In Simferopol, in annexed Crimea, on January 22, 2024, a local 24-year-old resident, anti-war activist Alina Grek, was detained. A criminal case was opened against her for treason, attempted terrorist attack and training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities. According to the version of the Russian security forces, in September 2023, Grek contacted an employee of Ukrainian intelligence and offered cooperation for money. After that, she allegedly purchased components for the manufacture of homemade incendiary devices on his orders, and then sent him a video of her setting fire to the assembled device. Law enforcement claims that after this, the intelligence officer instructed the activist to manufacture another device and set fire to a relay cabinet on the railway. The court sent the girl into custody during the investigation. In June 2022, Grek was fined for writing "No to war. On August 14, 2025, the Southern Military District Court found Alina Grek guilty and sentenced her to 15 years in a general regime penal colony."
