Case Description
On January 9, 2025, Alina Borshchuk, a 24-year-old native of Murmansk, was detained in St. Petersburg. On January 10, 2025, a criminal case was opened against her. The girl was accused of insulting the feelings of believers, committed in places specially designated for holding religious services. According to the investigation, while at the Kazan Cathedral, she relieved herself in order to offend the religious feelings of believers. She captured her actions on video using a mobile phone and distributed the recording in her Telegram channel. Initially, Borshchuk denied the accusations, claiming that the video had been edited, but in court she fully admitted her guilt and repented. After her detention, Borshchuk was placed in a temporary detention facility, and then released under a written undertaking not to leave and to behave properly. On January 13, 2025, the Smolninsky District Court of St. Petersburg also held her administratively liable for petty hooliganism. On July 7, 2025, a magistrate of judicial district No. 45 of St. Petersburg terminated the criminal case against Alina Borshchuk, releasing her from criminal liability with the imposition of a criminal law measure in the form of a court fine of 30 thousand rubles. On September 17, 2025, the Kuibyshevsky District Court of St. Petersburg left the court's decision in force.
