Case Description
On the night of May 7, 2023, a fire was recorded in the relay and battery cabinets on the Suprjak - Cement Plant section in the Chelyabinsk region. Fire was discovered around midnight: two relay cabinets were broken into, locks were broken, and a black balaclava was found at the scene. The cabinets burned out completely, but this did not affect the movement of trains. On the same day, three people were detained on charges of arson - 18-year-olds Dmitry Masgutov and Nikita Sychev and 21-year-old Alexei Udalikh. According to the security forces, the young people acted in the interests of Ukrainian special services for material remuneration. A criminal case of sabotage was opened against them on the fact of arson. All three were sent to a pre-trial detention center. On June 17, 2024, the Chelyabinsk Regional Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Alexey Udalikh and Nikita Sychev to 11 years in prison, Dmitry Masgutov to 11.5 years. The young men will spend the first three years in prison, and the remainder in a strict regime colony. They must also compensate Russian Railways for damages in the amount of 163,600 rubles. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
