Case Description
In October 2022, a criminal case was opened in the city of Ostashkov, Tver Oblast, for publicly justifying terrorism against 36-year-old local resident Alexei Sukhobokov. The reason for the criminal prosecution was his conversation with colleagues at work on October 10, 2022, during which he spoke approvingly of the explosion on the Crimean Bridge, which occurred two days earlier. According to the prosecution, Sukhobokov "became a follower of right-wing radical Ukrainian nationalist ideas, a supporter of the activities of the Ukrainian terrorist organization 'Azov,' fascist ideology, and also an active opponent" of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. On October 19, 2022, Sukhobokova was sent to a pre-trial detention center. On April 26, 2023, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Alexei Sukhobokov guilty and sentenced him to 2.5 years in a settlement colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
