Case Description
On October 22, 2023, an unknown person set fire to a relay cabinet with equipment belonging to Russian Railways in Vyaznikovsky District, Vladimir Oblast. On October 23, 2023, FSB officers detained 47-year-old Alexei Sokolov, a resident of the Kovrovsky District of the Vladimir Oblast, on charges of arson. A criminal case was opened against him for treason, sabotage and preparation for participation in the activities of a terrorist organization. According to the investigation, the man made contact with a recruiter from one of the 'Ukrainian terrorist organizations' and expressed a desire to join their ranks. During the correspondence, the curator reported that as a test, he needs to complete at least two tasks, the first of which is arson of a transport infrastructure facility. The court placed the defendant in custody. On November 11, 2024, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Alexei Sokolow guilty and sentenced him to 16 years in a strict regime colony.
