Case Description
In the city of Nefteyugansk, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug - Yugra, no later than August 2024, a criminal case was opened for repeated "discrediting of the army" against 36-year-old local resident Alexei Smirnov. According to the security forces, from February 25 to August 6, 2024, the Nefteyugansk resident posted information discrediting the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the open access of the social network VKontakte. The case contains three episodes, but it is unknown exactly what the man wrote. It is also unknown about the choice of a preventive measure. Earlier, in February 2024, the court fined Smirnov in a case of an administrative offense under the article on repeated discrediting of the army. The reason was a comment that the Nefteyugansk resident left on November 8, 2023, on VKontakte under the post "The Shaman recorded a video for the song "My Fight" with footage taken on the battlefields of the SVO. Guaranteed, you will be sobbing. Smirnov compared the singer's work to Nazi militaristic propaganda. On July 17, 2025, the Nefteyugansk District Court of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug - Yugra found Alexey Smirnov guilty and sentenced him to 2.5 years of imprisonment conditionally, with a probation period of 2.5 years and deprivation of the right to administer websites, forums, chats, and groups in social networks on the Internet for 2.5 years.
