Case Description
In May 2023, two residents of the Razdolnensky district were detained in Crimea. According to law enforcement officers, the brothers Alexei and Vladimir Settarov voluntarily joined the ranks of the "Crimean-Tatar Volunteer Battalion named after "Nomana Chelebijikhan" on the territory of Ukraine and took an active part in illegal actions in the areas bordering Crimea. Criminal cases were opened against them for participation in an illegal armed formation. The court remanded the men in custody. On October 26, 2023, Razdolnensky District Court of the Republic of Crimea found Vladimir Settarov guilty and sentenced him to 5 years in strict regime with the first year to be served in prison and 1 year of restricted freedom. 22 November 2023, the Razdolnensky District Court of the Republic of Crimea found Aleksey Settarov guilty and sentenced him to 5.5 years in a strict regime colony with the first year to be served in prison and 1 year of restricted freedom. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force. On February 15, 2024, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea left Vladimir Settarov's sentence unchanged.
