Case Description
In September 2023, a criminal case was initiated in Yekaterinburg against 49-year-old turner Aleksey Sergeev on charges of justifying terrorism. Russian security forces initiated criminal proceedings against Sergeev based on a comment he made in the "Ekaterinburg LIVE" group on VKontakte on April 4, 2023, in which he referred to the murder of Vladlen Tatarsky as "removing a cancerous tumor": "It's amazing how surgically precise they were in removing the cancerous tumor, Sergeev wrote. Also in the VKontakte group "Yekaterinburg LIVE" under the post about the death of pilot Sergeev, he wrote: "death to the occupiers, and in the community of the TV channel "Tsargrad" in 2022 under the text about the "SVO" he left a comment: "death to the rashists. On Alexey Platonov's page under a video of Vladimir Putin's speech, Sergeev wrote: 'Someone threaten him, for your own safety.' The investigation claims that Sergeev wanted to write "grokhnite" but made a typo. For the duration of the investigation, the Yekaterinburg resident was taken into custody with a written undertaking not to leave. On March 10, 2025, the Central Military District Court found Aleksey Sergeev guilty and sentenced him to 5 years and 3 months in a general regime colony.
