Case Description
1. In May 2023, investigators from the Moscow office of the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case against actor Alexey Panin. He was accused of justifying terrorism. The reason for the criminal prosecution was a post on Telegram on October 8, 2022: on the day of the explosion on the Crimean Bridge, the actor allegedly wrote that he 'cannot hide his joy' at what had happened: 'I cannot hide my joy that on Putin's birthday, Ukraine blew up the Crimean Bridge. It's a pity that for the money that was poured into it, thousands of sick children could have been saved,' the actor's post, which is now hidden, reads. Panin left Russia in 2020 and lives in Spain. He was put on the wanted list. On February 15, 2024, the Gagarin District Court of Moscow chose as a preventive measure against Alexey Panin a measure of arrest in absentia for a period of 2 months from the moment of his extradition or deportation to the territory of the Russian Federation, or from the moment of his actual detention on the territory of the Russian Federation. On September 26, 2024, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Alexey Panin guilty and sentenced him to six years in a general regime colony. The court also banned him from publishing materials on the Internet for three years.
