Case Description
In August 2024, in the occupied Donetsk region, 39-year-old local resident, Ukrainian citizen with forced Russian citizenship Alexey Ostrovsky was detained. He was accused of treason and illegal trafficking of weapons, ammunition, and explosives or explosive devices. According to the Russian investigation, from February to April 2024, the man, while in Donetsk, collected and passed information about an employee of the law enforcement agencies of the DNR to the Security Service of Ukraine. This information could have been used against Russia's security. In addition, from February 2022 to October 2023, he illegally stored firearms, ammunition, and explosives at his place of residence. August 6, 2024, a man was placed in a pre-trial detention center. On February 27, 2025, the Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic found Aleksey Ostrovskiy guilty and sentenced him to 15 years in a strict regime colony. On June 4, 2025, the First Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction left the verdict unchanged.
