Case Description
In Nizhny Novgorod in August 2022, a criminal case was opened on 'fakes' about the Russian army on the grounds of political hatred against 32-year-old local resident, Pastafarian, and blogger Alexey Onoshkin. The reason for the criminal prosecution was a post on VKontakte about the destruction of the drama theater in Mariupol, in which he called Russian soldiers "Russians", as well as several comments published from March 2020 to July 2021. They mentioned the leaders of the armed struggle for Chechnya's secession from Russia and, among other things, said: "Killing is generally bad, but it is even more disgusting to differentiate killers into ours and theirs." On October 3, 2022, by court decision, Onoshkin was sent to a psychiatric clinic for compulsory treatment. On October 10, 2023, the 2nd Western Military District Court ruled to release the man from criminal liability and imposed compulsory medical measures in a specialized facility. On December 14, 2023, the Appellate Military Court partially granted the appeal and excluded one post, which was published before the appearance of this article in the Criminal Code, from the charges under the article on 'fakes.'
