Case Description
In Sevastopol, no later than May 10, 2024, 28-year-old Ukrainian citizen Alexey Kuzin was detained. According to the security forces, while on the territory of the memorial complex "Sapun-Gora", dedicated to the heroic defense and liberation of Sevastopol during the Great Patriotic War, the man climbed onto the barrel of a captured howitzer and performed actions that desecrated symbols of Russian military glory, as well as insulted the memory of front-line soldiers. Upon arrival, he filmed his act on his mobile phone camera and then posted it on his account in a popular social network for public viewing. The Investigative Committee of Russia for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol accused Kuzin of rehabilitating Nazism using the Internet. The court chose detention as a preventive measure for him. 26 June 2024, the Sevastopol City Court found Alexei Kuzin guilty and sentenced him to one and a half years of imprisonment in a penal colony-settlement. On September 6, 2024, the Third Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction left the sentence in force.
