Case Description
In Moscow, no later than May 2023 (the exact date is unknown), a criminal case was opened for 'fakes' about the Russian army on the grounds of political hatred, incitement of hatred or enmity, and justification of terrorism against Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada deputy Aleksey Goncharenko. It is unknown what became the reason for the criminal prosecution. 17 May 2024, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Alexey Goncharenko guilty and sentenced him in absentia to ten years in prison, the first 3 years he must spend in prison, the remaining seven years - in a general regime colony. The court also banned the deputy from administering websites on the Internet for three years. August 6, 2024, the Appellate Military Court upheld the sentence. No later than January 2025, another criminal case was opened against Goncharenko. He was accused of public calls for terrorist activity and humiliation of a group of persons on the basis of nationality. According to the investigation, in October 2024 and January 2025, Goncharenko, during public speeches, called for bombing Moscow, expressed contemptuous attitude towards Russian citizens and called for the killing of the national leader of Russia. He posted videos of these performances on his channel on the Internet. On December 19, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Alexei Goncharenko guilty in absentia and, by partially combining sentences, finally sentenced Goncharenko to 18 years of imprisonment, with the first 5 years to be served in prison, and the remaining part in a strict regime correctional colony. He was also banned for 4 years from engaging in activities related to administering websites on the internet.
