Case Description
In the Kurgan region at the end of June 2023, a criminal case was initiated against a resident of the village of Tselinnoe, Alexey Filyugin, on charges of "fakes" about the Russian army and repeated "discrediting" of the army. According to the investigation, Filugin "repeatedly posted on his social media page information discrediting the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation" in the period from March to April of this year. On July 1, the Tselinny District Court of the Kurgan Region chose Filugina's measure of restraint in the form of arrest. In the petition for such a measure of restraint, investigators stated that Filugin resides in a territory bordering Kazakhstan, from where he is originally from, and, according to operational information, had expressed an intention to hide there. Earlier, in June 2022, the court fined Filugin in a case of an administrative offense under the article on discrediting the Russian army due to a number of publications and comments on his page on VKontakte condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine. On September 28, 2023, the Tselinny District Court of the Kurgan Region found Filyugin guilty and sentenced him to one and a half years of compulsory labor. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
