Case Description
In Tolyatti, Samara Region, in early August 2022, 45-year-old speech therapist Alexey Arbuzenko was detained. According to the investigation, the man repeatedly damaged posters depicting military personnel who "showed heroism during the SVO" together with his underage son, throwing stones and clods of earth at them. In particular, they damaged a poster with a photograph of a Samara resident, platoon commander, Lieutenant Andrey Fedotov, who, 'despite being wounded, managed to ensure the destruction of three long-term enemy firing points, thanks to which our soldiers liberated one of the settlements'. According to the security forces, Arbuzenko damaged 3 banners in a few weeks. A criminal case was opened against Alexey Arbuzenko for vandalism motivated by political, ideological, hatred or enmity. Later, charges were added under articles on "repeated discrediting of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation" causing property damage and "involving a minor in the commission of a crime." "On August 1, Arbuzenko was placed in a pre-trial detention center. Earlier, Alexei was brought to administrative responsibility under the article on "discrediting the RF Armed Forces. On May 1, 2023, Artem Losev, a judge of the Avtozavodsky District Court of Tolyatti, Samara Region, found Aleksey Arbuzenko guilty and sentenced him to six years in a general regime colony. July 31, 2023, the Samara Regional Court upheld the verdict.
