Case Description
On June 16, 2025, Alexandra Maroti, a 24-year-old local resident, was detained in St. Petersburg. The next day, a criminal case was opened against her for hooliganism committed by a group of persons and desecration of the state emblem of the Russian Federation. According to the prosecution's version, from May 29 to June 15, 2025, Maroti, while in an apartment on Soyuza Pechatnikov Street, conducted a video broadcast during which she burned her Russian Federation passport. She accompanied her actions with obscene statements and a positive assessment of the destruction of the passport and state emblem. In the video, she also stated: 'Let's go, follow me.' The security forces also detained her acquaintance as an eyewitness to what happened. On June 19, 2025, the Oktyabrsky District Court of St. Petersburg sent a defendant in the case into custody. On October 27, 2025, the Oktyabrsky District Court of St. Petersburg found Alexandra Maroti guilty and sentenced her to 2 years of imprisonment in a penal colony-settlement.
