Case Description
7 December 2022, a criminal case was initiated against Alexander Vdovichenko, a resident of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and a citizen of Ukraine, for the repeated "discrediting of the army." The reason for the criminal prosecution was his condemnation of the aggressive war in Ukraine and support for the "Azov" battalion during a private conversation in an apartment. His own acquaintances wrote a denunciation against the man. The date of detention and the measure of restraint are unknown. Earlier, on 29 June, the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk City Court fined Vdovichenko 30 thousand rubles under an administrative article on "discrediting" the Russian army for a comment on the Sakh.com website. In the text of the publication, he condemned Russia's actions in Ukraine. On 21 July 2023, Judge Yevgeny Proskuryakov of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk City Court found Alexander Vdovichenko guilty and sentenced him to a fine of 150 thousand rubles. The sentence was not appealed and entered into force. A second case of repeated discrediting of the RF Armed Forces against Ukrainian citizen Alexander Vdovichenko residing in Russia was filed with the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk City Court. It is unknown when the case was initiated and what prompted the prosecution. On 11 March 2024, the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk City Court of Sakhalin Oblast found Alexander Vdovichenko guilty and sentenced him to a fine of 130 thousand rubles. On 15 August 2023, Vdovichenko was sentenced to six and a half years in a strict regime colony on charges of attempted murder.
