Case Description
In the city of Slantsy, Leningrad Oblast, at the end of August 2024, security forces detained a 64-year-old local resident, working pensioner Alexander Titov, on charges of justifying terrorism. The reason for the criminal prosecution was comments in a Telegram channel dedicated to the Ukrainian battalion "Azov. According to the investigation, from November 2022 to May 2023, Titov left three comments (according to other data - at least five) in the Tekegram channel "Consul for ideology" in Ukrainian. The comments were left under publications related to the Ukrainian battalion 'Azov' activist Alexei Reins. Titov wrote: 'Thank you for the article, it's written quite strongly." Here's an article for you too, it might be useful for work,' 'Please write comments.' "We in Russia are waiting and wishing you good luck" and "Congratulations from Ingermanlandia." The court chose a measure of restraint for him in the form of a ban on certain actions. On November 6, 2025, the court placed the defendant in custody. The reason for the toughening of the measure of restraint was the pensioner's failure to appear in court due to an asthma attack. On December 8, 2025, Judge Yevgeny Lazarev of the 1st Western Military Circuit Court found Alexander Titov guilty and sentenced him to 5.5 years in a general regime colony.
