On August 17, 2023, a criminal case was initiated in Irkutsk for justifying terrorism, rehabilitating Nazism, and desecrating the flag of the Russian Federation against a local 54-year-old resident, Alexander Skvortsov. According to law enforcement's version, Skvortsov tore down the Russian flag from the wall in the premises of the Olympic Reserve sports school, crumpled it, and threw it into the shoe compartment in the closet. Moreover, he left comments in Telegram channels with "rehabilitation of Nazism" and "justification and propaganda of terrorism. What exactly Skvortsov wrote is not reported. Skvortsova was placed in a pre-trial detention center for the duration of the investigation. On April 5, 2024, the 2nd Eastern Military District Court found Aleksandr Skvortsov guilty and sentenced him to four years in a general regime penal colony.
