Case Description
In Moscow, no later than October 2023, a criminal case was initiated for inciting hatred or enmity with a threat of violence against businessman and former district deputy from the Kirovograd region of Ukraine, Ukrainian citizen Alexander Povoroznyuk. The reason for the criminal prosecution was a video address to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, which Povoroznyuk recorded on February 28, 2022, with the words: "Vova, fuck them, damn it!" According to the Russian investigation, from February 24, 2022 to January 4, 2023, Povoroznyuk, "sharing anti-Russian positions," posted various videos in which he incited hatred against Russians. In October 2023, Povoroznyuk was put on the wanted list. On July 1, 2924, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow found Alexander Povoroznyuk guilty and sentenced him in absentia to five years of imprisonment.
