Case Description
1. In April 2022, a criminal case was initiated in the city of Artyom, Primorsky Krai, concerning public calls for extremism and terrorism against local 20-year-old resident Alexander Poletaev. The reason for the criminal prosecution was comments that Poletaev left on February 24, 2022, in the chat of a public group on VKontakte - on the day when Vladimir Putin announced the start of a "special military operation" on the territory of Ukraine. What exactly the young man wrote is unknown, but he indicated that he left these comments while in a difficult emotional state, as he was worried about acquaintances who live in Ukraine. Poletaev was placed under house arrest, but later the measure of restraint was changed to a written undertaking not to leave. On December 22, 2022, the 1st Eastern District Military Court found Alexander Poletaev guilty and sentenced him to two years of imprisonment in a general regime colony. On May 2, 2023, the Appellate Military Court upheld the verdict.
