Case Description
Alexander Plotnikov, a 39-year-old resident of Chelyabinsk, was detained on July 15, 2024, as he was leaving his house. After several hours of torture with an electric shocker, he was brought for a search of the apartment where he lived with his wife Anastasia and son. Anastasia was at home at that moment, while his son was in a summer camp. Law enforcement officers seized Alexander's phone, a couple of stickers, patches, and a Ukrainian flag. Plotnikov was accused of public calls for terrorism. The reason for the criminal prosecution was a comment in Telegram about the events in Makhachkala with insults to law enforcement agencies - in the comments under a video about shooting at a police car, Plotnikov wrote: "Finally! At least someone has taken on the bandits in epaulets." Alexander was placed under arrest as a preventive measure. On October 10, 2024, the Central Military District Court found Alexander Plotnikov guilty and sentenced him to 6 years in a general regime penal colony. On May 14, 2025, the Appellate Military Court left the verdict unchanged.
