Case Description
In the Kursk region on November 16, 2024, during combat operations, Ukrainian citizens, servicemen of the 95th Air Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Aleksandr Petrenko, Sergey Rukavitsa, and Vyacheslav Grablin, were taken prisoner by Russian military personnel. Criminal charges were brought against them for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, in October and November 2024, Petrechenko, Grabina and Rukavitsa, as part of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on armored vehicles "Kozak" illegally invaded the territory of Glukhkovsky and Sudzhansky districts of the Kursk region. They blocked the village of Novy Put and the village of Pogrebki, under the threat of using weapons, they prevented the evacuation of the civilian population, and also opened fire on Russian military personnel and local residents. No later than June 26, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found all servicemen guilty and sentenced Alexander Petrenko, Vyacheslav Grabin, and Sergey Rukavitsa to 16 years of imprisonment, with the first 3 years to be served in prison, and the remaining term in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
