Case Description
In Novokuznetsk, Kemerovo region, at the beginning of August 2024, the FSB detained 61-year-old local resident Alexander Krechetov. He was accused of cooperating with a foreign state to the detriment of the Russian Federation. According to law enforcement officials, the man, disagreeing with the current political system and the war in Ukraine, from December 2023 to April 2024 through Telegram "initiated" confidential cooperation with a representative of the SBU and "offered to assist foreign states in activities knowingly directed against the security of the Russian Federation. During the correspondence, he expressed his willingness to assist the representative of the SBU in activities aimed against the security of the Russian Federation, by carrying out an explosion or arson of state or military facilities in the Kemerovo region - Kuzbass." 1. It is claimed that he received a response 'from a representative of a foreign state' and agreed 'to seek important information in the fight against Russia.' "Carrying out "intelligence-related" assignments, Krechetov allegedly recorded and sent video recordings and images containing information about military, transport, and law enforcement facilities in Novokuznetsk to a foreign party. The court chose a measure of restraint for the defendant in the form of detention.
