Kravchenko Aleksandr Vladimirovich
Case Information
Case Description
In Moscow in January 2022, Alexander Kravchenko, the chief doctor of the Matrosskaya Tishina pre-trial detention center hospital, was detained. He was accused of exceeding his official powers and abusing them with grave consequences. Kravchenko recommended the release of four prisoners due to their health condition. According to the investigation, these diagnoses by the doctor were fictitious. Kravchenko did not admit his guilt, insisting that he was only honestly fulfilling his duty, saving the lives of seriously ill patients. On January 20, 2022, the judge of the Presnensky District Court of Moscow sent Kravchenko into custody at the request of the investigation. On December 12, 2023, Judge Valentina Lebedeva of the Preobrazhensky District Court of Moscow found Alexander Kravchenko guilty and sentenced him to seven years in a general regime colony. The court also stripped Kravchenko of his rank of police colonel and prohibited him for two years from engaging in "activities related to the implementation of administrative and economic and organizational and administrative activities in the healthcare system, and medical activities. On June 25, 2024, the Moscow City Court upheld the sentence. On May 30, 2025, the Kirovo-Chepetsk District Court of the Kirov Region replaced Kravchenko's punishment of imprisonment with compulsory labor."
