Case Description
In Saransk, the Republic of Mordovia, in April 2024, two 19-year-old local residents, Maxim Zhivechkov and Alexander Kotov, were detained. According to the security forces, the men planned to travel to Ukraine via a third country to participate in hostilities against the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. On the orders of the so-called curator, they allegedly carried out photo and video shooting of strategic facilities in Saransk, which could be subjected to drone attacks in the future. Criminal cases were initiated against the detainees on charges of participating in the activities of a terrorist organization. Zhivechkov was also charged with attempted treason. The court sent the defendants in the case into custody.
