Case Description
On September 24, 2022, local resident Alexander Korus was detained in the city of Mogocha, Zabaykalsky Krai. According to the investigation, Korus, "being aware of the illegality of his actions and the presence of tense intergovernmental relations between Russia and Ukraine," applied inscriptions criticizing Vladimir Putin and the war in Ukraine on the city's infrastructure objects. On railway facilities, he wrote "Putin is a fascist, no to war! Glory to Ukraine," and on reinforced concrete blocks near the local highway - "No to war," "Vata ZOMBI," "NO TO MOGILIZATION," "Putler is a fascist" and other inscriptions. A criminal case was initiated against Korus for vandalism motivated by political hatred. No measure of restraint was chosen for the man. On May 17, 2023, the magistrate of the judicial district No. 16 of the Mogochinsky District Court of the Zabaykalsky Krai, Alena Baldandorzhieva, found Alexander Korus guilty and sentenced him to one year of restriction of liberty. The court prohibited him from leaving the city, changing his place of residence or stay. The court also imposed on Korus the obligation to appear at the supervisory authority once a month for registration. The verdict was not appealed and entered into force.
