Case Description
On January 28, 2026, in Almaty, Republic of Kazakhstan, 25-year-old Ukrainian citizen with forced Russian citizenship, IT specialist Alexander Kachkorkin was detained. Kazakhstani police (Bostandyk district police department of Almaty) fabricated two administrative protocols against Kachkurkin at once: for crossing the road in an unauthorized place and for "smoking hookah in an enclosed space": a police officer stopped Alexander, asked him to cross the road and indicated a specific place where he intended to check documents." 4. Then another protocol was drawn up - about smoking hookah in a closed room. On the basis of these two protocols, the Kazakh police turned to the court, demanding that the young man be expelled from the country. The court granted the police's request, after which Kachkurkina was urgently taken to the airport and sent on a flight to Russia. Upon arrival in Moscow, he was detained right on the plane. Kachurkina was accused of treason. The reason for the criminal prosecution was money transfers to Ukraine. The details of the charges are unknown. On January 31, 2026, the Meshchansky District Court of Moscow granted the prosecution's motion and placed the defendant in custody.
