Case Description
In the urban-type settlement of Zubova Polyana, Republic of Mordovia, a criminal case was initiated against 21-year-old local resident Alexander Bezin for possession of explosives. During a search of his apartment, gunpowder and chemical reagents were seized. The examination showed that the seized items belonged to "explosive substances of throwing action and could be used to charge a homemade explosive device. According to the investigation, Bezin was going to speak out against the war in Ukraine. Bezin was released on his own recognizance not to leave. January 16, 2023, the Zubovo-Polyansky District Court of the Republic of Mordovia found Alexander Bezgin guilty and sentenced him to 3 years of imprisonment with a probationary period of 3 years and a fine of 30 thousand rubles. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
